Pleased to Meet Q

Introductions are always awkward. We’ll break the ice and tell you a little bit about us.

Officially, our story began in 2015. But the underlying problems we sought to fix with Q Engineering had been going on a lot longer than that.  and what drove the ideas that would eventually become Q Engineering —  started a lot earlier than that.

Really, it started every Friday afternoon at about 4 p.m. The phrasing changed, but the gist was always this: “Last Friday you updated your numbers, but would you mind re-updating them again? And do you think you could get it done by the end of the day?”

James was in acquisitions, but this problem was everywhere. In fact, being in acquisitions allowed us to see just how widespread the use of inefficient workflow processes had become. We were visiting a new company every week all over Texas, and we saw firsthand how engineers worked and what their workflow was like.

“ We thought, this is incredibly inefficient. They’re all doing the same thing, and they’re making it as complicated as possible. ”

It was the same. Everywhere. The same sequence of steps, being taken by every single company.

Our response was strong and united: Wow.

OK, there was more to it than that. We thought, this is incredibly inefficient. They’re all doing the same thing, and they’re making it as complicated as possible.

That was our lightbulb moment. We have this problem, 30 other companies have this problem, and as far as we can tell the entire industry has this problem. So, let’s solve this problem.

We finally made the leap three years ago. That meant sharing the plan with our wives, resigning from our jobs, and inventing every step as we take it.

OK, but why should you care? Fair question.

We’ve been practitioners in this space for 10 years each. Q Engineering’s software solutions are one of the few times that you have reservoir engineers from the field come in and build software to be used by other reservoir engineers. We speak their language and know what they want to accomplish, and through trial and error (and a crash course in coding) we figured out how to create value for them much more quickly.

Now, you’ve heard a little bit about us, it’s time for us to hear a little bit more about you. If you’re ready to talk software or oil & gas or just want to shoot the breeze about life in Texas, contact us and we’ll be in touch. Can’t wait to hear from you.
